Checking In: The Maybourne Riviera

The Maybourne Riviera, Cote d’Azur

Poised above the shimmering Côte d’Azur, The Maybourne Riviera is a hotel that defies easy definition.

Location & Local Favourites

A feat of geometric elegance built into the cliffs of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the hotel balances architectural boldness with a meditative stillness—like it’s always been here, watching the Mediterranean in silence. As it reopens for the 2025 season, new culinary icons and a pioneering wellness concept elevate this already rarefied retreat into something quietly remarkable.

The Maybourne Riviera’s location invites a slower, more deliberate kind of immersion. Roquebrune-Cap-Martin may lie between Monaco and Menton, but it resists easy comparison. This is where Italian flair gives way to French composure, where Picasso once sketched and Le Corbusier traced the coastline on foot. From the hotel’s terraces, the view stretches east to Italy and west to Monte-Carlo—an ever-shifting horizon of light, sea, and quiet distinction.

Rooms

Private terraces. Sculptural restraint. Interiors that let the sea do the talking.

There are 65 rooms, including 24 suites, each with a private terrace that doesn’t just offer a view, it insists on stillness. Interiors are serene, sunlit, and elemental, echoing the surrounding landscape rather than distracting from it. Materials are honest: stone, linen, pale woods—paired with angular modernist silhouettes that create a feeling of suspended calm.

Every space, from the corner suites to the cliffside bedrooms, is shaped to frame the Mediterranean like a painting. The result is a room that breathes with the sea and sky, yet never demands attention.

Dining

A daily menu that feels as seasonal as the sun.

The Maybourne Riviera’s culinary direction is a study in confident evolution. At the top of the hotel, abc kitchens riviera marks Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s arrival to the French Riviera, translating his celebrated New York concepts—abc kitchen, abcV, and abc cocina—into a bright, organic menu that celebrates local produce with philosophical clarity. Expect coastal freshness refracted through Vongerichten’s plant-forward, globally infused lens.

Down at Maybourne La Plage, a short Moke ride away, La Môme Riviera brings Cannes’s signature energy and Mediterranean charm to a new private beach club. Curated DJ sets and elegantly relaxed dining make this a destination beach restaurant. Executive Chef Sébastien Tantot orchestrates the culinary harmony across all venues, from Riviera Restaurant to Le 300 Bar, which will welcome mixologists from the World’s 50 Best Bars for evenings as unexpected as they are refined.

Wellness

Longevity rituals, advanced therapies, and a philosophy rooted in presence.

Enter Surrenne Riviera, and you’ll quickly realise this is not a spa—it’s a philosophy. Spanning three levels carved into the cliffside, Surrenne offers a longevity-forward approach blending ancient rituals with cutting-edge science. Treatments are deeply personalised, co-created with expert practitioners and supported by advanced diagnostics and Biologique Recherche skincare.

Beyond massages and facials, four open-air studios invite sunrise Pilates or TRX against the horizon, while seasonal memberships offer ongoing access to what may be the Riviera’s most sophisticated sanctuary for mind and body.

Location

Roquebrune-Cap-Martin may sit between Monaco and Menton, but it resists comparison. It’s where Italian energy softens into French elegance—where Picasso sketched and Le Corbusier walked the cliffs. From The Maybourne Riviera’s terraces, the coastline stretches from the Italian border to Monte-Carlo, framed by sea and sky.

A short walk leads to the Corbusier Trail, Roquebrune’s 10th-century château, and a 1,000-year-old olive tree still thriving in the heart of the village. Just beyond, Menton’s Old Town offers local markets, art workshops, and curated wine tastings that reveal the region’s layered identity.
